Our LA/OC Chapter Secretary, Mark Alexander, ( This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ) produced a wilderness safety video for the National Association of Search and Rescue with funding from the Disney company. It’s just been released and is now being shown in elementary schools around the country.

Mark reports, “At one point in a shooting day I was directing 23 members of various L.A. County Sheriff Dept. Search and Rescue teams, two rescue helicopters and eight emergency vehicles all while operating a camera dangling out of a helicopter in the mountains above L.A. County.”  Talk about multi-tasking! The video’s been well received by program presenters and educators. Mark’s next project is a series of videos about "state of the art" mobile and fixed emergency command centers for fire, law enforcement and military.

John Primm of DV Post has been traveling all around the state of California shooting for client, Caltrans. In the last two years a total of 291 minutes of new video programming has been produced - all dealing with preventing polluted water from going down storm drains.

Bill Medley of The Righteous Brothers showed up at DV Post one day with a box of tapes in hand.  Primm and Medley first met when John videotaped the tall, righteous one for the 2005 Newport Beach Film Festival which he shot with Rick Sherman and John Coleman for the OC Media Alliance. John Primm videotaped Medley again more recently for a charitable organization.  Obviously, Bill had not lost that lovin’ feeling toward  DV Post. This time, John did a re-edit and added a bunch of new clips to Medley’s pre-concert video. It was really a fun project to work on (Say, Bill while this is rendering  how about a couple of songs?) The end result can be seen at

Authoritative Actor, Singer and Voiceover member Bill A. Jones ( has been a busy guy of late, having just completed work on camera for an HBO commercial as well as the Samuel L. Jackson film, "Unthinkable."  He plays a newsman in both.

New Years' Eve had Bill Singing Standards with the Pat Longo Big Band at the Universal City Hilton, and he'll be doing his solo act February 18th for the New York Club in Laguna Woods.  Recent voiceovers include The National Association of Automotive Dealers (NADA) for OC Ad Agency Brandtailers, Union Bank of California, Amgen, & others.  Bill’s proudest moment, however, will come February 19 when his Daughter Samantha celebrates her 6th birthday

Voice artist and songbird, Tina Wilson, who is also our current chapter president, was heard recently as the voice of the Orange County Ad Club’s Addy Awards show, recording it at Post Modern Video. Perhaps you’ve heard Tina sing at Newport Beach’s popular Villa Nova with our own keyboard wizard, Rick Sherman.

Working at Sherman Sound Suite, Tina also recorded a narration for a new documentary, "Voices Of A Never-Ending Dawn," produced by Pamela Peak.  This new PBS documentary is about a group of soldiers called The Polar Bears. These boys were sent to Northern Russia from Detroit in World War I and held hostage there. Tina’s also recorded for software company, Wonderware West.

Producer-Director-Writer, John Coleman, has finally quit polishing his Golden Reel award for his documentary on the Monterey Historics and is developing a gritty new series about the video news stringers of LA—the guys who capture all the blood, mayhem and tragedy after dark. He’s partnering with Grace McKay of Electric Pictures and Jay Mitchell of Footage Works

Electric Pictures which is Orange County’s only full service film-to-tape telecine house (35,16 and 8mm) with DaVinci color correction by Emmett Kesel, has been busy developing web sites for old feature films. Grace McKay is also in the process of reformatting the MCAI LA/OC Chapter’s website making it more INTERACTIVE and adding SOCIAL NETWORKING features.  Check it out!

DUDE! Marcelo Lewin, the Digital Media Dude hisself is busy finalizing the acquisition of Pixel Heads Network into ProMAX.   He is also editing lots of Macworld and CES videos for  and working with the ProMAX marketing team on launching their new website.  NOT ENOUGH? Marcelo is also covering the Cinema Innovators Network event in Burbank.  Sleep? Who needs sleep?

20 Years!! ALREADY? Creative Media Recording recently celebrated their 20th anniversary at their Cypress location. In the fall of 1988 (seems like only yesterday) construction of the two studio facility was completed and the business relocated from nearby Garden Grove to the Warland Business Park in Cypress.

Creative Media Recording  has now been owned for over 30 years by sound designer Tim Keenan and his wife, Linda Keenan. Their clients include major corporations, advertising agencies and independent communication production companies throughout Southern California.  Recent projects include providing audio for a 10 part training series for Mercedes Benz; a series of web based modules for nurse continuing education; and a number of radio and TV spots for Final Inches Medical Body Shaping Centers of Southern California.

Award-winning producer Mary Pipes and her famous Glass Eye Productions just completed a Video News Release for Masimo, a global medical technology company that develops and manufactures innovative noninvasive patient monitoring technologies. (say THAT 10 times real fast!) The video will be used as a PR tool for the Irvine-based corporation.

Gary Stone reports that his Gold Standard Productions was very busy last quarter working on a series of web-based training videos for Linksys. The videos covered several newbie subjects such as "Setting up a Home Network", "Choosing the Right Router", and "Securing You Home Network".  The instructionals are featured on the client’s newly redesigned website as well as on everybody’s favorite tutorial site, YouTube.

Independent writer, producer and director, Bill Ennis, just finished editing the Ms Fitness USA television show. This is the 7th year his company, Media Magic, www.MediaMagic.TV has produced the show, which airs nationally on Fox Sports. Bill has also agreed to produce two videos for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's ongoing fundraising efforts.

Vivacious Patricia Shanks, actress, voice talent and coach, recently voiced three medical programs for Philips Healthcare, and a sales DVD for a medical billing program. Patricia also provided recorded narration for the Los Angeles Board of Supervisors Quality and Productivity Awards banquet (reportedly, a truly wild bacchanal) Other jobs include a tribute for the Ronald Simon Foundation; an ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) presentation for the Massachusetts State House; a sales and training demo for an online real estate listing service, and a welcome and safety message for Lincoln Homes National Historic Site. On-camera, she did some mini-hosting for an online vacation network. Patricia continues to voice Toyota dealership spots for the East Coast market. Who says the economy has slowed?

As you may have read somewhere, Sherman Sound Suite of Irvine has been working closely with Producer/Director Pamela Peak since September on the World War I documentary "Voices of a Never Ending Dawn".  Sound Suite composer/audio engineer (and noted troubadour) Rick Sherman has recorded the voice-over actors, and is providing music editing, sound effects, complete sound design, and final mix for this dramatic true story of the American soldiers who fought (and many died) in arctic Russia, even months after WW I had ended. Visit the web site at for more information.

Wearing his other hat as musician, in recent months Rick Sherman recorded, performed keyboards on, and mixed guitarist/singer Worth Giller's premiere CD release, "Golden Vanity". Sherman also recently recorded a live interview via phone patch with legendary country music artist T.G. Sheppard, who was in Nashville. The interview was for promotion of Sheppard's new double CD/DVD release "Partners in Rhyme", which features duets with, among others, Willie Nelson, Jerry Lee Lewis, Juice Newton, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Crystal Gayle, Ricky Skaggs, the Oak Ridge Boys, and Engelbert Humperdinck.

The economy has slowed tremendously but contrary to popular rumor it’s NOT the reason Video Resources dropped their frame rates all the way down to 24P!  Brad Hagen and the crew have recently completed principal photography for the upcoming feature "Given Tendency." Renowned producer Armin Bettels traveled from his home base in Germany, to southern California, for the 2 camera RED ONE shoot. VR provided all gear and crew—and will consult on the post workflow and DI transfer to film being done back in Deutchland. Is it true Armin was heard singing “VR Uber Alles” as he boarded the Luftansa flight home?

Ever community minded, Video Resources collaborated with a national agency on a fund raising video for the Be Aware Foundation. The video entitled "Imagine..." is targeted toward philanthropists, sponsor groups, and volunteers in an effort to raise funds to promote proper breast health and the benefits of early detection. Yet another project shot entirely with the RED ONE. Take a look:

Hagen’s civic mindedness is common knowledge throughout Orange county. Brad's political insight was a major factor on his choice as Director of Photography for Beverly Hills City Council hopeful Richard Stone's campaign video. Shot on DV in Beverly Hills, Brad and the gang were tasked with an ambitious multi location three hour shoot, the results of which can be seen at The best part was the pizza lunch at Mulberry Street Pizzeria, a local favorite.

Dennis Backer of Media by Design ( is in post production with a training/troubleshooting video for school bus drivers operating wheelchair lifts. Production was completed in late December, with the assistance of MCAI members Grace McKay, Larry Goldsmith, and Mark Alexander.  In addition, Dennis is continuing to market his expertise in website search engine optimization (SEO) as well as setup and management of pay-per-click campaigns in Google, Yahoo, and MSN.  Dennis is also working on video and DVD projects for "Israel Up Close".

Voiceover talent Travis has been busy the last three months. He’s the voice of a number of Documentaries including a program on Muay Tai Martial Arts for a Florida producer; a film Called "The Great Squeeze"  on global warming for a company in NYC; a retrospective of the life of Steven Lewis, and his work with the UN and the Aids epidemic in Africa. If you’re changing careers you may hear Travis on any number of Training tapes including web programs for Acura, Honda, Mazda, Kia and everybody’s favorite, the "Sonic" fast food chain. But Wait! There’s More! He’s also the voice behind Radio and TV Commercials for the Orange County Performing Arts Center, new line of copiers for Fujitsu and Public Service programs for The State of California and the US Government.
