At the March meeting of MCAI, OCMMA President, Cynthia Gordon, and DV video SIG organizer Bonnie Erdich announced a new, official Adobe User group. They've dubbed it the "After Effects Abuser Group--Pushing Pixels Beyond". MCAI members are invited to help celebrate by attending their April 27 meeting Free! (and be eligible to win Adobe software!)The Adobe group plans something for everyone including new users. User group managers, Terry Syndergaard and Bonnie Erdich, promise the reconstituted DV SIG will become a creative cabal of people who love visual effects and want to exchange ideas. They're also reaching out to people who would like to add production value to their projects and don't have a clue how to get started.
The group meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Every meeting will include a Newcomers Corner featuring Quick & Easy Tips with How-To Handouts, to get started and try out the next day. This way new users can add expertise over time. By providing a forum for both pros in visual effects and newcomers, the pros can put their heads together, expanding their knowledge, and the newcomers can get an easy start and be inspired.
Special guest speaker for April 27 is Josh Claudin, past DV Manager and current Art Director for the Outdoor Channel. In March the featured guest was Keivan Fotoohi who demonstrated his Lightwave 3D modeling technique to create a cruise ship, and animation technique to create a dancing frog using Maya, which he considers best for organic forms. Keivan who comes from a cinematography background and has been doing 3D since 1996, also talked about WalMart product placement flythrough animation for Disney.
In April, OCMMA is again extending an invitation to MCA-I members for FREE -- including pizza! Make sure you RSVP on the OCMMA meetUp site so there is enough food planned.
An additional benefit about being an Adobe User Group is that twice a year over $2000 worth of Adobe software bundles will be raffled off to some lucky winners, making it profitable to attend and learn something useful. MCAI members who come for free on April 27th will be eligible for a drawing of a $2100 Adobe Software bundle giveaway to be held by OCMMA in June. You must be present in June to win. Note that people who attend in June for the first time will NOT be eligible to win!
