Our monthly MCA-I meeting for May 2007 was hosted by Jerry Grant at the offices of his company search Optimization Inc. (www.search-optimization.com) on Wednesday May 16th.
I think I can speak for all of us in saying thank you to Jerry Grant for his wonderful ospitality, and also for being on our panel of experts. The networking began at 6:30, and there was plenty of food and refreshments. It was great seeing familiar faces as well as new faces, and it was great to become
re-acquainted with people who we had not seen in a while.
The actual meeting began at 7:15 with our President John Coleman (www.twinoaks.tv)
asking everyone to go around the room and introduce themselves. Our first speaker was MCA-I member Rick Sherman (www.ricksherman.com/index2.htm) who gave a brief overview of the Effective use of music for your website. His presentation made the point very dramatically. Then Travis (www.VOTalent.com) gave us easy steps on how to upload video to your website. These were very enlightening topics for everyone who attended the meeting, and there were many questions asked, and much conversation was generated throughout the evening. Believe it or not, his was only the beginning.
Our main speakers for the evening included web designer, Marcelo Lewin http://blog.thedigitalmediadude.com/ who talked about how to build an affordable website with techniques used by large corporations with huge budgets. Our next speaker was web designer Stephen Heppell, http://fuelbrothers.com who talked about the do's and don'ts for effective websites. Jerry Grant from Search Optimization was our final speaker who discussed the best ways to optimize your web sites for search engines.
While each of our speakers' main presentations concentrated on one area, when the discussion opened up they reinforced each others advice and information. For instance, they mentioned the fact that it is important to decide what type of audience you are wanting to target in the design of your web site, and how to get the right traffic to notice you. They stressed the importance of looking at other websites to see what has made their marketing successful, and also, the fact that it is important to educate yourself before sitting down with a web designer.
For those of you who couldn't make the meeting, we do have podcasts of highlights of our monthly meetings which can be viewed on our website, www.socalmediapros.org
But really, you had to be there to get the full effect of the excitement that was generated that evening. Each speaker on the panel did an excellent job, and there was so much to talk about that
many people felt that we could have had several more meetings on just this one topic. There was so much discussion, and I think all would agree that the meeting could have gone on until the wee hours of the morning. So there is always the possibility of this type of topic being discussed at another future event.
Bill Ennis (www.MediaMagic.TV) reminded everyone that we have a nominating committee for next month's elections. It is that time of year again. Door prizes were presented, and the meeting
was adjourned at 10:20.
