A fun time was had by all as members and guests of the Media Communications Association met on Wednesday June 21. The meeting was hosted by Steven Milley at JVC in Cypress. Networking began at 6:30, and it was great to meet first-time guests as well as seeing familiar faces. It was also great to see sponsors from Promax. (www.promax.com)
The general meeting began at 7:00 with our president, John Coleman, giving a recap of what we have done as an organization in the past year and also giving an explanation of what is to come. We had three speakers, speaking about high definition cameras, production and post production workflow.
Craig Incardone from Incardone Films www.incardonefilms.com spoke about understanding the pros and cons of production and post-production when it comes to standard camera work in comparison to high definition. Steve Millie also gave an informative presentation about JVCs new Hi Def camera, the GY-HD100U, how it works and why Its different from the competition. Doug Cunningham, West Coast regional engineer from Apple Computer also gave a presentation with examples of workflow using Final Cut Studio by various TV Series and Motion Pictures.
There was a lot of audience participation during the question and answer period, and the discussion was quite animated. It was evident that each speaker had a passion for their field of expertise. Craig Incardone said that the most important thing to remember before choosing the type of high definition camera that you may want to invest in is choosing your delivery as well as hoosing the format, and the frame rate. Doug Cunningham mentioned that the lighting needs to be more dramatic when using a high definition camera. It was neat to see the interest and excitement of guests and members alike, as many people had questions about the way the future of the industry is going.
After the door prizes were presented, ballots were passed around for election of officers for the coming year. Results will be announced at the next general meeting.
All in all, we had a great evening with a lot of people meeting new people, great food, and lively discussion. We look forward to seeing you at our July meeting.
