President’s Message December 2012

Our Greatest Strength

Well, 2012 is rapidly coming to a close and we’ve just gone through a very contentious, politically charged election season and are still in the midst of difficult financial times. The future is still cloudy with all the professional prognosticators putting out reams of thoughts, ideas and statements, including the end of the world according to the Mayans. All, seemingly, intended to drive the general public into a frenzy by using a mixture of fear, worry and trepidation. Some people become “preppers”, hoarding gold, guns, ammo, food, water and all the back issues of Mad Magazine they can find. While others just hope it all gets better in time. To some It all seems dire, but, the resilience of this country is very great. And one of our greatest strength is that of community.

We are most fortunate to have a fabulous media community here in Orange County. We’ve shown that more than once this year; coming together when our dear friend Larry Goldsmith passed away, with MCA-I, PVN, Media Alliance and others showing their support to Larry’s family and finalizing Larry’s projects. There was also VO Peeps and MCA-I working together to bring about the Career Education Scholarship Fund as well as the Sandra Swingler Fund. And don’t forget MCAI’s annual MediaProCamp and our monthly meetings—all of which offer opportunities to share valuable information and make connections—leading to potential jobs. These and many other individual situations and projects that brought us together continue to show the benefits of community.

I am proud to be a small part of MCA-I and this community of media professionals and I sincerely wish you —and all of us working in media—a blessed and wonderful holiday season and a very happy New Year!!
