HOOP Foundation Needs Mentors, Cameras & Equipment

Bryan C. Jones, one of the founders of non-profit HOOP Foundation (“Holistic Offerings & Opportunity for People.”) has asked the MCAI Media Community for help finding volunteers to teach kids video and broadcasting with an emphasis on sports. They also need any equipment you can donate--as long as it's working. The idea is simple: kids love sports. What better avenue to capture their attention and teach them about media while keeping them off the streets. You'll be working with kids at Locke High School helping youngsters learn how to cover sports for broadcast, video, webcasting and more

What Members Are Doing: Walter Davis

Walter Davis: Serial Communicator

As our Chapter President, you'd think Walter Davis would be a pretty busy guy—and you'd be right. But no one kows exactly HOW busy! Besides running a couple of media businesses, Walter has been a TV and Radio host for a number of years. Because he believes in using his skills to be a positive force in the world, his Citizens Internet Radio Network, as well as many of his TV shows, often showcase stories focused on human rights and social justice. He also uses it as a media forum to expose MCA-I to millions of listeners. Some of Walter's individual shows have reached as many as 20,000 listeners.

You'll find the shows contain fascinating perspectives and important information—often facts that are not widely talked about! For example, during February 2014, the Citizens' Internet Radio Network will be presenting a series of radio shows highlighting holistic health, parental rights, cancer prevention and many other topics. But take a listen to past shows (still available in archives) and you'll get an idea of how broad Walter's interests are. These webcasts are supported by a number of sponsors and Walter constantly seeks more as he encourages listeners to support them. Shows are available world wide and can be accessed via computer or phone. Archived versions are available immediately after broadcast. We suggest you liosten in and share with family, friends and associates.

Members In The News: Tina Wilson

Vocalist and VO Artist Tina Wilson, a long-time member and a past president of the LA/OC Chapter of MCA-i, made the local paper. The OC register caught Tina in action while performing at a fundraiser for the Young Singers of Orange County, held at Chapman University. Among her busy schedule of performaing and being an in-demand VO professional, Tina always finds time to help others—whether its volunteering at a fundraiser or serving on the board of a non-profit professional organization like MCA-i. We're glad she got recognized! You can hear more of Tina on her website: http://tinawilsontalent.com ...And thanks to the Orange County Register!

45th MCAI MEDIA FESTIVAL—BE A JUDGE!

SIGN-UP as a JUDGE before January 15, 2014!

As you've probably heard, MCA-I's annual Media Festival's valued Golden Reel awards are based on non-competitive, peer reviewed judging! This unique format means everyone could win the highest prize. Equally important, entrants get valuable feedback from the whole panel of judges so they understand how they were scored. Naturally MCA-I selects the best experienced media professionals.

You owe it to yourself to be a judge. Judging is educational, enriching, fun, interesting, thought provoking—and a darn generous thing to do! Judging will again be done all online, so you can view, score and comment at your convenience. Judging starts shortly and the deadline to apply as a judge is Wednesday January 15th

Register HERE to be a Judge for the 45th Annual MCA-I Media Festival.

You do not have to be a member of MCA-I to be selected as a judge. However, each panel of judges will include a majority of MCA-I members. Judges will be selected based on the following criteria:

  • Years of experience in the industry
  • Membership in MCA-I
  • Past experience judging media competitions
  • Willingness to provide written critique, which is a hallmark of the MCA-I Media Festival

You may receive notification that you have been approved, but that does not mean you are on a team and can begin scoring. The final determination of judges will depend on who has registered. The administrator will let you know if/when you can begin scoring

Register NOW to be a Judge for the 45th Annual MCA-I Media Festival.
