Bill Jones on CBS March 20

Watch for member Bill A. Jones on CBS-TV's "The King of Queens" March 20th.
(Date subject to change, so check your listings for the episode titled "Sold-y Locks").

Said Bill, "Kevin and Leah (two of the stars) were great to work with.  And I got to meet Robert Goulet, who was really nice.  He was Guest Starring that week.  I play 'Mr. Brill' in the first scene, so don't tune in late...unless you want to miss me."

Recently, Bill was the Announcer for "The Razzie Awards" (for the worst films of the year, http://www.Razzies.com), and is the Voice on the just released parody Short Film, "The McPassion".   (View it, hopefully with a Super Sized Sense of Humor, at http://www.TheMcPassion.com).

Additionally, Bill worked in January as a live Trade Show Narrator/Presenter for XtremeMac at MacWorld in San Francisco, in February for CyberTrust at the RSA Expo in San Jose, and is scheduled to be on stage for Quantum Corporation during NAB Las Vegas, in April.

OC's Hollywood Connection

There's a long article in the August 4, 2005 issue of OC Metro Magazine about Orange County's expanding role in movie making, with many familiar names.  Paul Fabian, a member of MCA-I is included in the article, and Janice Arrington is on the front cover.

The entire article is also on the magazine's website, www.ocmetro.com.

DV Post News

Happy Birthday to Us!

DV Post was 5 years old on  June 15th.  Now having lasted longer than a college education, it seems like we have learned even more about being in business than what a college education teaches you.  Not only has DV Post learned many new software programs besides Final Cut Pro, we have grown professionally due to continued contact with our clients and the professional trade organizations that we are a member of.  Our client list has gone from basically 0 to over 90!  That includes 60 businesses and over 30 individuals.  Thanks to all of you on our customer list.

More Storage -

DV Post recently purchased two portable 200 GB Fire Wire drives which now gives us a total of one terabyte of storage.  DV is roughly 5 minutes of video per gig which means that we can store 5000 minutes, or just over 83 hours.  The portable drives were purchased in preparation for some editing in the field.  The finishing of the programs will be done in our office.

More Stuff -

We now have a lightning fast external firewire/USB DVD burner and a color inkjet printer for making really nice looking DVDs.  Our price list has refected some major changes in DVD replication.

More Software bragging -

We now have Adobe Illustrator, which is a great compliment to Photoshop and After Effects, Toast Titanium on the Mac which speeds up CD and DVD burning, the full version of Peak, an audio recording program with lots of filters and effects, and something called SwishMax - a simple, but fun, Flash authoring program.  It was used to make the title sequence on www.datingbabyboomers.com

Although updating one's software is not real big news, we have updated all of our perfectly fine major software to the latest versions.  These upgrades are forced upon us by the evil computer/hardware/software (let's make it obsolete tomorrow) industrial complex.  And so now we have the latest versions of Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro.  While Final Cut Pro HD has a few interesting enhancements, it came with some very creative additional programs.  "Live Type" is a pretty cool animated titling program and "Soundtrack" allows one to actually "compose" a music track using the hundreds of included instrumental audio clips and sound effects.

While being forced to upgrade all the time is irritating, I have to admit that the new upgrade of DVD Studio Pro 3 is like having a completely different program, and was well worth it.  DVD Studio Pro 3 offers some big improvements in creating a DVD, such as some nice transitions between any slideshow or menu element and being able to create a pretty sophisticated menu in the program itself without relying on PhotoShop.  Also greatly improved is the creation of sub titles and how chapter makers are handled - plus it adds scripting which allows you to automate a DVD being played instead of a menu looping endlessly, and making a story which allows you actually do a cuts only edit of an exisiting video clip.

After Effects 6.5 has added some really cool built-in animations for text and brought back nearly 200 older effects that were only boxed within the "pro" version.

Any Baby Boomers Out There Who Are Single?

We have a kind of wild idea about making a documentary about Baby Boomers and the world of Internet dating.  A new web site, www.datingbabyboomers.com is dedicated to the idea.  The site has had a good share of visitors, but so far no one has volunteered to be in the video.  If you are or know anyone who is single and between the ages of 40 and 60, please tell them about the web site.  We are going to  keep this site open until July of 2005.

Every 15 Minutes

California fxMedia, Inc. produces Anti-Drinking-Driving Video/DVD for High School Students:

It was our pleasure to be involved with the community production of "Every 15 Minutes". This event is a simulation of a major traffic accident involving teenagers who were drinking and driving.
This event represented the fact that someone is killed on an average of every 15 minutes by the driver of a vehicle who has been impaired by the over consumption of alcohol or the use of drugs.
We video taped this ambitious simulation involving the Fire Department, Police Department, Coroner's Office, Helicopter Rescue Team, and the student body of Santa Fe High School.
The resulting 13 minute video was authored to DVD and 100 copies made and distributed to all participants and departments.
