Bryan C. Jones, one of the founders of non-profit HOOP Foundation (“Holistic Offerings & Opportunity for People.”) has asked the MCAI Media Community for help finding volunteers to teach kids video and broadcasting with an emphasis on sports. They also need any equipment you can donate--as long as it's working. The idea is simple: kids love sports. What better avenue to capture their attention and teach them about media while keeping them off the streets. You'll be working with kids at Locke High School helping youngsters learn how to cover sports for broadcast, video, webcasting and more
The Organization’s primary purpose is to address challenges such as recidivism, lack of positive male role models, gang involvement and violence, health disparities and lack of health education and cultural/social activities deprivations that exist in these areas that have the highest rate of poverty, crime, teenage pregnancy and high school dropout rates in Los Angeles County. Through sports/recreational, social/cultural and environmental programs the Foundation has more than 6 years of experience in providing outreach services to youth, primarily in the areas of basketball tournaments, tutoring and mentoring. Operations and funds for the events were contributed by the Founders, volunteers and donations.
