All About Audio-on August 18th

The August 18, 2010 Meeting of MCAI is All About Audio. We've booked four top OC experts. They're masters of field production, live performance, recording, mixing, editing, sweetening, scoring and post production audio. Got equipment questions? Music? Dialogue? Voice Over? Sound FX? They'll have the answer. But that's not all...

Our panel of experts represents a wide variety of audio, sound and music experience in Film, TV and Recording. They're bringing tips, techniques and information on the latest technology and production along with plenty of opinions and great stories to share with you. Equally as important, they're ready to answer your questions.

Production Sound Mixer, John Franco, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. has spent most of his life recording sound. While still in his teens he began a career as a session singer and recording engineer working in studio and playing in bands. He was usually the only guy who could make all the equipment work. He shifted his focus to Production Sound and now he's got almost 20 years experience recording on set and on location. He has recorded "Music for Broadcast" with artists Cheryl Crow, Alicia Keys, BB King, Paul McCartney and Sting. He was the original Sound Supervisor for HBO's Project Green Light and Real Housewives of Orange County. Most recently you can find him in Hollywood, working on national commercials for companies such as Dannon, McDonalds and Mattel. With experience in Commercials, TV, Music, Sports and Corporate Communications and Franco's expertise in capturing sound for the latest in Hi-Def. digital video acquisition, including RED ONE and Canon's 5D, it is easy to see why his services are in such high demand.

Tim Keenan, is the chief engineer and producer at Creative Media Recording in Cypress, California www.CreatiiveMediaRecording.com and a member of MCAI since the invention of the phonograph. For over 30 years, they have been providing professional audio services, sound design, audio for television, radio commercials, etc., for a wide range of clients. Tim is especially noted for his work with voice-over talent and the respected VO workshops he runs with the talented Sylvia Aimerito. Besides recording, Keenan's shop turns out numerous radio spots, does audio postproduction cleanup for TV & film, foreign language narration and is expert in sweetening shows utilizing production libraries for sound effects and music tracks.

Rick Sherman divides his time between performing and composing music and doing post production audio for film and TV. By night he's OC's well known troubador entertaining at nightspots such as the Village Inn and Villa Nova. During the day, he runs Sherman Sound Suite, www.ShermanSoundSuite.com/ located in the South Coast Media Center in Irvine. Also a long-time member of MCAI, Sherman's studio is capable of true ADR - Automated Dialogue Replacement. He also composes original music and scores independent films and TV shows, recently garnering a local Emmy nomination for his work on the Pamela Peak documentary, Voices Of A Never Ending Dawn, for which he also did sound effects. Sherman has also been known for his work in commercial spots notably for Ditech and theme songs for shows such as KOCE's Real Orange.

Music Producer, Steve Wood, www.SteveWoodMusic.com finds it hard to pick just one title. As a classically trained singer (opera) and with a 10 year stint as Musical Director for Kenny Loggins, he's been in demand by a wide variety of artists and producers, including Sony Music. Wood is also an accomplished engineer and a noted composer having scored all the IMAX features including "Everest." With his studio in Laguna Beach, not far from his schoolmate and frequent client, Greg MacGillivray, Wood has recently recorded a number of Jazz albums and continues to work regularly in film and TV.

As Always come early for networking over light food and bring plenty of business cards, headshots, resumes, etc.
