The annual MCAI MediaPro Mixer was enjoyed by a sellout crowd. Attendees had fun chatting, collecting lots of business cards from potential clients and collaborators as well as sharing in close to $5,000 worth of doorprizes! Here's the juicy details...MC Brian Page opened the evening with a big thank you to sponsor ProMax Systems and all the companies and professionals who made the collection of doorprizes the richest in the five years of the event! Tim and Linda Keenan of Creative Media Recording donated two hours of studio time which was appropriately won by voice talent, Omar Guzman. Another award in audio services came from composer, musician and post production audio maven, Rick Sherman and his Sherman Sound Suite. It was won by Ernie Castelo, the Executive Producer and Host of OC Skyline, an new OC news-magazine TV show which we hope to see soon on KCET and KOCE.
Doorprizes also included voice-over services donated by Derek Partridge and separately by Tina Wilson of Tina Wilson Talent. The lucky recipients were John Coleman and Sandy Embrey respectively.
The purse of prizes contained a number of valuable professional creative services as well. John Coleman's Twin Oaks Communications donated media strategy, production and distribution consultation, won by Associate Producer and AD, Carol Martini. The Center for New Media Studies, web guru Marcelo Lewin's newest online firm, gave freelance commercial writer, Shelly Henderson, valuable media/marketing consultation time with the master. And noted composer for Film and TV, Michael Licani, walked away with a free, future personalized Website Optimization Analysis Report courtesy of SEO Excell! and founder, Dennis Backer. Of course, being no slacker in the world of creative services, Artistic Web Design CEO, David Salahi, donated both website design services (including 10 pages) and a whole year of web hosting! Gary Stone was the winner.
Highly valuable production services, everything from telecine transfers to Red Camera rentals,were a highlight of the doorprize drawings. Grace McKay's Electric Pictures, the only professional telecine house in OC, gave out three (3) certificates good for film to tape transfer. Among the lucky recipients was Producer and TV Host, Walter Davis who drove all the way up from San Diego. That certainly made it worth the drive! A valuable half-day free rental to the OC SOUNDSTAGE, Orange County's newest green-screen facility, was won by Director of Photography Steven Frassa. Steve had a big smile on his face as a result! And NVT Digital, (formerly known as National Video Tape) who's expanded their business into digital archiving, data asset management and audio/video equipment, awarded a certificate for free encoding services from any type of analog video to digital files of just about any format.
The biggest ticket item came from long-time MCAI Member, Brad Hagen, and his company Video Resources Inc. They have two of the acclaimed RED Camera rental packages in demand by independent filmmakers, commercial producers and others. Broadcast engineer Eva Crabbs was the lucky winner of a half day discount on a RED rental from VRI. Depending on the package, her doorprize could provide up to $750 in savings!
And finally, the Flip Ultra HD Camcorder was won by Dennis Backer, who promises to make good use of the mini-device.
Master of Ceremonies, Brian Page, thanked all who came for making it a fun gathering and all the prize sponsors for donating such great gifts. And on behalf of the crowd he also thanked the volunteers who made the event possible including Eva Crabbs who dealt with Gulliver's and also helped Omar Guzman and Gary Stone sell additional raffle tickets; John Coleman who coordinated the doorprizes; as well as Larry Goldsmith and Omar Guzman who handled registration, greeting everyone with a smile!
