JULY MEETING AT KOCE A BIG HIT!

It was a fun and informative evening as MCAI members enjoyed networking and meeting at KOCE studios in Huntington Beach. We got the inside scoop on what kind of original programming the station is looking for!

After sitting in the studio, watching the Real Orange broadcast live, we were treated to some comments and Q&A from that evening’s show anchors, Ann Pulice and Rick Mielke, sitting in for Ed Arnold. There were both interesting questions from our media professionals and informative answers from Ann and Rick.

Voice-over artist, Travis, officially opened the meeting as our MC and turned it over to our President John Coleman who explained that MCAI is all about business and professional growth for our members. That’s why this meeting was so important. Many of us have great ideas and certainly the training to produce quality TV programs – why not for our own Orange County public TV station, KOCE?

Travis then welcomed our hosts and featured guest speakers. KOCE Assistant Station Manager. Mr. Ed Meskevich, and Ms. Pat Petrick, KOCE’s Director of Broadcasting. Together these two professionals answered many of our questions regarding utilizing Orange County talent for their programming. They said they are open to any new ideas for quality programming from our members as long as a professional proposal was submitted (they don’t do “pitch sessions”) and as long as the programming concept pertained to what was happening right here in Orange County. They also mentioned that high definition  quality is a priority for them though not required. Ed explained that plenty of their programming comes from a variety of sources including educational programming, internet based , documentaries and specials, but the real hard to find programs are ones that scream Orange County!

Both guests and members alike had a great time at this useful event.    I think everyone came away from this meeting felt that a lot of good information was shared. There was plenty of optimism about MCAI members presenting new programming possibilities to KOCE. Lots of interaction and lively conversation, and some fun door prizes highlighted the evening. The meeting was recorded for later podcast by MCAI member, Mat Baer of Rogue Scout Productions. So, if you want the details go back to our home page and navigate until you find our podcast.
