The February MCA-I meeting was called to order by President John Coleman at 7:15. It was hosted by Canon Camera in Irvine, who did a wonderful job. The room was very nice, and for those of you who were not able to make it, the food was fabulous. John said that next month’s speaker will be a consultant and former executive from MGM whose topic is entitled Good in a Room. She will discuss the best way to pitch your project and sell your ideas to business contacts. Then everyone went around the room and introduced themselves. John also mentioned that the MCA-I will be holding their national conference in Los Vegas on April 27th and 28th, in conjunction and following the National Association of Broadcasters conference. He mentioned that those who register early would receive free admission to the exhibits. The Golden Reel awards will be held on that Friday night.
John also mentioned our up and coming breakfast which is held monthly on the fourth Wednesday at Denny’s in Tustin. He said that Promax has agreed to sponsor the MCAI monthly meetings. John mentioned that the Florida chapter of the MCAI will be doing a creative film contest and that we need to have a committee of volunteers to evaluate and judge.
The guest speakers were Tim Smith and Greg Salman from Canon Camera. The topic of discussion was the XLHD1 new high definition camera. Tim mentioned that some of the advantages of this high definition camera are its flexibility, the interchangeability of lenses, and also the fact that once you have your adjustments made on the camera, they can be stored and will never have to change. Greg and Tim both feel that compression is the way of the future.
After both speakers answered questions, the meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
